Managed IT

The IT department for a business too small to hire one.

Matano IT Solutions looks after the computers, the email, the phones, the network and the backups, so the person who runs your business stops being the person who fixes the printer. One flat price per person per month, a help desk anyone in the office can call, and patching and monitoring that run whether or not anybody remembers to ask.

  • 25 years in IT
  • Our own check, on your own domain
  • A public status page
  • Flat pricing, no ticket budgets

Based in East Windsor, New Jersey, and remote support is available nationwide.

Or see what your business looks like from the outside first. The check reads your website, your email and your published number in about fifteen seconds, free and without an account.

  • No account, no card
  • The report is yours to keep

What is included

Everything, rather than everything except the thing that broke.

One plan. There is no bronze tier where the monitoring is missing and no line item for the thing you assumed was covered.

  • Unlimited remote help deskFor everyone in the business, not a named contact.
  • Patching and monitoring on every computerWhether or not anyone remembers to ask.
  • Managed detection and response, day and nightSomething watching the machines while nobody is in the office.
  • Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace administrationAccounts, licences, permissions and the leavers nobody removed.
  • Backup of your Microsoft 365 or Google dataMail and files, restorable. Their platform is not a backup.
  • Enforced multi-factor authentication and endpoint protectionOn every plan, enforced rather than offered. The wider security baseline, with mailbox rules audited and admin accounts separated, is quoted as onboarding rather than included.
  • Vendor managementThe internet company, the printers, the software nobody else will call about.
  • Documentation you ownPasswords, licences, how it is wired. Yours if you ever leave.
  • A quarterly reviewWhat broke, what changed, what is coming, in writing.
  • A status page that shows you what we seeThe same monitoring we look at, public.

On site is available when a problem needs hands, and it is billed rather than included, at a rate agreed with you before we come out, one-hour minimum, no travel charge within 25 miles. No plan carries an on-site allowance.

How it is priced

Four plans, and the price of each one.

Every figure below is the published price, not a starting point. What a 15-minute review settles is which plan fits and how many people are on it, and that arrives in writing before anything is agreed.

The four managed plans, who each is for, and the published price per person per month
Plan Who it is for Per person, per month What it adds
Solo Care One to four people. No seat minimum. $125 The Essentials list apart from backup, for a firm too small for the minimum. Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace backup is the $10 add-on here and is included on every managed plan. About an hour of hands-on support a month, then billed time agreed beforehand, and a quarterly check-in.
Essentials Five and up, with a five-person minimum, so the smallest managed plan is $475 a month. $95 Help desk, patching, monitoring, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace management, enforced multi-factor authentication, endpoint protection and backup. Support is not timed, and onboarding includes a network discovery.
Secure Five and up. $135 Everything in Essentials plus email security, phishing simulation, ongoing email authentication monitoring and a quarterly review.
Compliance Five and up. $165 Everything in Secure plus written documentation of the security controls in place, kept current, for the questionnaires your clients and insurers send you.

Solo Care and Essentials buy the same list, apart from backup

Same help desk, same patching and monitoring, same Microsoft 365 management, same enforced multi-factor authentication, same endpoint protection. The one thing Solo Care does not include is Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace backup, which is $10 per person per month there and included on every managed plan. A firm of four is not sold a smaller product; it is sold the same product without the seat minimum, which is why $125 per person is more than $95 and not less.

Three things change when you reach five

Support stops being timed. Solo Care includes about an hour of hands-on work a month and then bills by the hour; on a managed plan remote support is unlimited in good faith, with no ticket budget. Backup is included rather than being the $10 add-on. And onboarding includes a network discovery, which is the walk through what you actually run, wired how, that Solo Care does not get.

What a smaller firm can add

The Secure layer can be added to Solo Care: email security, phishing simulation and ongoing email authentication monitoring. It is priced at the same step a bigger firm pays to move up a tier, and the figure comes with the proposal after the review. Backup is $10 per person per month, and it is included on the managed plans.

  • One flat price per person, per monthEverything above, for everybody, at one rate.
  • Quoted after a 15-minute reviewIn writing, before anything is agreed.
  • Rates improve above fifteen peopleQuoted with the review rather than published, because what it comes to depends on the mix of plans across your team.
  • Month to month, thirty days notice on the managed plansAn annual term is available if you would rather have one invoice. Solo Care is month to month, cancel any time.
  • No ticket budgets on a managed planAsking for help twice in a week is not a billing event.
  • On site is available and billedRemote first, because it is faster. A visit is billed at a rate agreed with you before we come out, one-hour minimum, no travel charge within 25 miles. It is not included, and no plan carries an on-site allowance.
  • Onboarding is quoted separately, not includedThe security baseline is $499 for a firm under ten, and it includes one on-site visit if you are inside the area we come out to. For a client outside it the same checklist is done as a video walkthrough, which is the identical list of work rather than a lesser version of it.
  • Projects quoted flat, firstA migration or a rebuild has a number before the work starts.

Two ways to work with us

We are the department, or we back up the person who is.

Managed IT

We are your IT department. Everything above is ours to run, you have one place to ask, and the security baseline is done before anything else. This is the right answer when nobody in the building wants the job.

Book a 15-minute review

Fractional IT

You already have somebody, and they are good. We bring the tools they do not have on their own: the monitoring, the security oversight, an escalation path when something is beyond the hour they have, and a block of hours each month. The floor and the hours are quoted with the work.

How fractional works

One job at a time

Not ready for a plan, or not ready yet.

A firm of one to four has a plan of its own now: Solo Care, $125 per person per month, the Essentials list apart from backup, without the seat minimum. And if you would rather buy one job than a monthly arrangement, these three have a fixed scope and a number in writing before the work starts.

Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace setup

QuotedPriced when the book carries it

The tenant, the domain, the accounts, the records that make your mail trusted, and multi-factor authentication turned on. Mail moved across from whatever you are on now.

Security baseline

QuotedPriced when the book carries it

Multi-factor authentication enforced, legacy sign-in blocked, mailbox rules and forwarding audited, admin accounts separated with a break-glass account, anti-phishing on. You also get the one-page summary that answers an insurance questionnaire.

Business email on your own domain

QuotedPriced when the book carries it

For a firm still sending from a free mailbox. Your own domain, the mail moved, the records published so it is trusted from the first message, and multi-factor authentication on.

The same work, from four different starting points.

This page is the whole picture. These four answer the question people actually arrive with, and each one stands on its own.

IT support in New Jersey

Who answers when it stops working, how fast, and where we come out to. For the reader whose problem is today.

What a managed IT plan includes

What becomes a project instead, and what a managed plan is not. For the reader comparing inclusions.

IT consulting in NJ

An independent written reading of what you already have, with no commission on what we recommend. For the reader who wants advice rather than a plan.

Choosing a managed service provider in NJ

Seven questions to ask any provider, and where a small firm fits against a large one. For the reader running a comparison.

The first thirty days

What actually happens after you say yes.

Week one

The baseline audit

Security and applications, not only email. What you run, who has access to it, and where the gaps are, written down.

Week one and two

The fixes that cannot wait

Multi-factor authentication, backups that restore, admin accounts separated from daily ones. These go first, before anything cosmetic.

Week three

Documentation and the status page

How it is wired, where the licences live, who to call for what. Yours, and public monitoring you can look at yourself.

From week four

The monthly rhythm

A recap email each month saying what happened, and a review each quarter about what is coming.

Who this is for

Three situations, one answer.

No IT person at all

Everything works until it does not, and then it is whoever is free and a search engine. We become the department, and the first month is mostly finding what nobody knew about.

An accidental IT person

Somebody good with computers who now owns the problem on top of their real job. We take the tools, the monitoring and the after-hours part, and they get their week back.

A provider already, and a doubt

Things get noticed when they break, nobody is sure what is actually in place, and help comes quickly one week and slowly the next. Our free check needs no access to your systems, so you can run it without telling anybody. We coordinate with them rather than replace them, unless you ask us to. If you would rather have it in writing, an independent IT audit is a fixed-price look at what is actually in place, and it changes nothing while it looks.

A tracked request, and a person who answers it.

Every request is recorded, whether it arrives by call, chat, text or email, and none of them sits unanswered while somebody decides whose it is. After-hours support is available and can be discussed.

Questions

What people ask before they move.

Do we have to leave our current IT provider?

No. Plenty of this work sits beside an existing provider: a security baseline, a backup that actually restores, an independent reading of what you have. If you do want to move everything across, we coordinate the handover rather than making you do it.

How fast do you respond?

Response times are set in your agreement rather than published here, and what an emergency means for you is part of what onboarding settles. What we can say without one is that every request is tracked, so nothing sits unanswered while someone decides whose it is, and our hours are Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. After-hours support is available and can be discussed.

Is there a contract?

Month to month with thirty days notice on the managed plans. An annual term is available if you would rather have one invoice a year, but nothing requires it, and the price does not depend on you signing for longer.

Do you come on site?

Yes, when a problem needs hands, and it is billed rather than included. Most things are faster remotely, so that is where we start. A visit is billed at a rate agreed with you before we come out rather than one published here, one-hour minimum either way, with no travel charge within 25 miles of East Windsor. If your agreement includes visits, that is written into the contract rather than assumed from this page.

Do you support Macs?

Yes. Mixed offices are normal now. Patching, monitoring and the security baseline all apply, and the help desk does not treat a Mac as somebody else's problem.

What about after hours?

Monitoring and the detection and response run day and night, so a machine that is compromised at two in the morning is dealt with then. Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. After-hours support is available and can be discussed.

What is not included?

Hardware and software you buy, the licences themselves, cabling and construction work, and projects: a migration, an office move, a rebuild. Those are quoted flat before the work starts rather than absorbed quietly into a monthly bill.

How does onboarding work?

The first thirty days above, in that order: the audit, the fixes that cannot wait, the documentation and the status page, then the monthly rhythm. You are not asked to change how you work while it happens.

How is the price set?

By how many people there are and what they use, after a 15-minute review and a look at what you run. It is one number per person per month, written down before you agree to anything, and it does not move because a month was busy.
